QUALIFICATIONS School Psychologist--Qualifications/Duties Position Title: District Wide School Psychologist Immediate Supervisor: Coordinator of Special Education Work Year: 10.5 Months Work Day: 7 1/2 hours Work Week: 37 1/2 hours Issued Date: 09/27/15 Required: Master’s Degree and/or an Ed.S in School Psychology or Education Licensed by the State of Tennessee Nationally Certified School Psychologist or NCSP eligible preferred Experience preferred Required Skills: • Data collection and analysis • Assessment • Progress monitoring • School-wide practices to promote learning • Consultation and collaboration • Academic/learning interventions • Mental health interventions • Behavioral interventions • Instructional support • Prevention and intervention services • Special education services • Crisis preparedness, response, and recovery • Family-school-community collaboration • Diversity in development and learning • Research and program evaluation • Professional ethics, school law, and systems The School Psychologist will: Improve Academic Achievement by: • Promoting student motivation and engagement • Conducting psychological and academic assessments to correctly identify student strengths and weaknesses • Individualizing instruction and interventions • Managing student and classroom behavior • Monitoring student progress • Collecting and interpreting student and classroom data • Reducing inappropriate referrals to special education Support Diverse Learners by: • Assessing diverse learning needs • Providing culturally responsive services to students and families from diverse backgrounds • Planning appropriate Individualized Education Programs for students with disabilities • Modifying and adapting curricula and instruction • Adjusting classroom facilities and routines to improve student engagement and learning • Monitoring and effectively communicating with parents about student progress Strengthen Family–School Partnerships by: • Helping families understand their child’s learning and mental health needs • Assisting in navigating the special education processes • Connecting families with community service providers when necessary • Helping to effectively engage families with teachers and other school staff • Enhancing staff understanding and responsiveness to diverse cultures and backgrounds Other Responsibilities • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or District Administrator. Physical Abilities This position requires lifting of objects not to exceed 25 pounds without assistance and the wearing of a safety support belt and frequent lifting and/or carrying objects that weigh 10 pounds or more. Other physical abilities that may be required are: 1. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. 2. Seeing 3. Walking 4. Reaching, handling, and/or feeling. 5. Talking and/or hearing.
